Teachers and clerks of the President Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School (PCCAES) called the Desk Officer to request for barangay employees to participate in the election dry-run as they test the 49 precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines which just arrived from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on May 3, 2016 (Tuesday) at 2:30 PM.
Led by Barangay Secretary Edwin P. Misolas, a pool of barangay staff – Marita “Marie” Lopecillo, Nelsa Astorga, Jocelyn “Jo” Dalumpines, Mary Ann “Gaygay” Linga, Soledad “Sol” Medriega, Aloha Gozon and a number of Environmental Police – headed to the school to keenly observe opening of each box, making sure that all parts of every machine are complete, assembling the equipment, testing functionalities, and among many others.
These PCOS machines will be used on the upcoming national elections on May 9 (Monday).
It can be recalled that the COMELEC decided to automate the election system in the Philippines for the following reasons:
1) to improve the accuracy of the counting of votes and tabulation of results;
2) to eliminate, or at least minimize, cheating;
3) to make the process more, not less, transparent to the public; and,
4) to speed up the process.
