Batasan Hills Council, namely: Captain John “Jojo” M. Abad; Kagawads Luisito “Tata” Z. Ludovica, Edgar “Junjun” S. Macario, Jr., Jhorwin D. Santos, Charlie O. Mangune, Ernesto “Ernie” S. Custodio, Filomena “Luming” V. de Guzman and Roberto “Bobby” B. Miras; and, Barangay Secretary Edwin P. Misolas, celebrated with Quezon City (QC) officials and other prominent people at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao in the evening of October 19, 2015 (Monday). Dubbed as “Manuel L. Quezon Gawad Parangal,” the awards night was carried out in honor of QC’s 76th anniversary after being founded in 1939.
The council registered upon their arrival at The Big Dome.
They mingled with acquaintances over cocktails.
They had the opportunity to observe the setup and check on other guests while waiting for the festivity to begin.
Hosted by showbiz personalities, Marc Nelson and Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa, the program began with an overture performed by ‘Pangkat Kawayan,’ an audio-visual presentation (AVP) featuring the QC jubilee activities and a musical number rendered by The Voice Kids grand champions, Elha Mae Nympha (2015) and Lyca Gairanod (2014), and 2015 finalists, Esang de Torres and Zephanie Dimaranan.
Right after Vice Mayor Josefina “Joy” Belmonte-Alimurung delivered her welcome remarks, the District 1 councilors presented the first batch of awardees – Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP), Philippine Orthopedic Center and Project NOAH.
Singers Mark Bautista, Kyla, Angeline Quinto and Erik Santos serenaded the guests in an OPM medley.
District 2 councilors, then, introduced ‘Go Negosyo’ and ‘Kapwa Ko Mahal Ko’ as second batch of awardees, immediately followed by the third. Raul Pangalangan, Justice Ameurfina Aguinaldo Melencio-Herrera and Kara David were called on stage by the District 3 councilors.
A dance production number was showcased by Legit Status comprised of Hiphop International 2015 winners, ‘Varsity’ (silver medalist) and ‘Megacrew’ (5th placer).
The fourth (Basilio Esteban Villaruz, Jaime Miguel Belmonte and Secretary Mario Montejo) and fifth (Ma. Lourdes Mangahas and Brillante Mendoza) groups of awardees were presented by the councilors of the 4th and 5th Districts, respectively.
A Bodabil medley by celebrities, Ogie Alcasid, Melai Cantiveros and Morisette Amon, awed the crowd.
The last wave of awardees, to wit, Alberto Galarpe, Rodolfo B. Modelo and Leonor M. Briones was called on stage by the District 6 councilors.
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Montejo responded on behalf of all the awardees.
An AVP of Mayor Herbert Constantine “Bistek” M. Bautista preceded his personal appearance which concluded the program and gave way to the ceremonial toast, significantly proposed by Mayor Bautista, Vice Mayor Belmonte-Alimurung and House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte, Jr.
Note-worthy happenings for the members of the barangay council were:
2nd District Councilor Ranulfo “Rannie” Z. Ludovica sat with them at their Upper Box seats all throughout the event;
They paid the Working Couple – 2nd District Representative Winston “Winnie” T. Castelo and 2nd District Councilor Precious Hipolito-Castelo a visit at the Novotel where the latter’s checked in for the night before the event; and,
The suits they wore were given to them by 2nd District Councilor Ramon “Toto” P. Medalla.
