BPI Bayan (English translation: BPI ‘nation’), a volunteerism program of the employees of the Bank of the Philippine Islands, sponsored a disaster preparedness seminar on September 19, 2015 (Saturday) from 8:00 to 11:00 AM at the Saret Covered Court.

Coined after the institution’s acronym, “Be ready, Plan ahead, It’s for our safety” taught 100 residents of Batasan Hills what to do during and after an earthquake. Enjoined by no less than 25 managers, supervisors and personnel of BPI branches in Commonwealth and Novaliches areas, the project was in partnership with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) and the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) and was in coordination with Captain John “Jojo” M. Abad and Kagawad Roberto “Bobby” B. Miras, chairmen of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC).

After a comprehensive discussion facilitated by QCDRRMO representative Mr. Romnick San Diego, BPI employees performed a knowledge check by asking questions about the topic and giving away gift items like umbrellas, wallets, purses and laptop cases to those who correctly answered.

Rice porridge which was made available by Capt. Abad and Goldilocks ensaymada and mineral water which were bought by the BPI employees were served to the participants as snacks. While, kits containing cotton balls, face towels, Povidone-iodine, Isopropyl alcohol, band-aids, whistles and flashlights were distributed to everybody.

Overwhelming gratitude and praises for the successful conduct of the program were evident in the speeches aired by Barangay Secretary Edwin P. Misolas; Kgds. Miras, Ernesto “Ernie” S. Custodio and Luisito “Tata” Z. Ludovica; and, Capt. Abad.
